As we move through Spring 2026, women’s healthcare services across the UK continue to evolve in response to changing clinical demands, workforce pressures, and national healthcare priorities.
AGHealth remain committed to supporting NHS teams with innovative diagnostics, induction solutions, and clinical implementation support designed to improve patient experience and operational efficiency.
In this edition, we explore:

National Prostin Shortage Continues to Impact Induction Pathways
Ongoing national supply challenges with Prostin are continuing to affect induction of labour pathways across NHS maternity services.
In response, many trusts are reviewing and adapting local protocols to ensure continuity of care while maintaining safe and effective induction practices.
Mechanical cervical ripening methods such as DILAPAN-S are increasingly being adopted because they:
Provide a reliable and predictable alternative
Are not dependent on pharmaceutical supply chains
Support both inpatient and outpatient pathways
Are associated with a favourable safety profile
AGHealth is actively supporting NHS teams through:
Clinical training
Protocol development
Service implementation guidance
These measures are helping trusts rapidly integrate DILAPAN-S into existing induction pathways during this period of supply instability.
If your service is currently reviewing induction practices or experiencing supply challenges, our clinical team is available to help.

WID-easy Service Evaluations Expand Across NHS Sites
WID-easy service evaluations continue to expand across NHS organisations, helping clinicians improve the triage of women referred through suspected cancer pathways with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB).
These evaluations, supported and funded by regional Cancer Alliances, aim to better understand:
Real-world operational use of the WID-easy test
Impact on Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) compliance
Potential reductions in procedural burden
Cost-saving opportunities within local pathways
Alongside these NHS evaluations, an important new peer-reviewed cost-minimisation analysis has recently been published in Value in Health.
The analysis demonstrated that WID-easy may provide both a clinically effective and economically advantageous alternative to transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) as a first-line triage test for patients presenting with AUB on the Urgent Suspected Cancer pathway.
Key findings included:
A greater than 99% probability of cost savings when using WID-easy within the Urgent Suspected Cancer pathway
Potential reductions in unnecessary investigations and resource utilisation
Opportunities to streamline patient pathways and improve efficiency

Renewed Women’s Health Strategy Signals Important Progress
The renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England marks an important milestone for women’s healthcare and reflects growing recognition of long-standing challenges across the NHS.
The strategy highlights several critical issues, including:
Delayed diagnosis
Inequitable access to care
Variability in patient experience
The need for earlier intervention and better pathways
At AGHealth, we welcome the renewed national focus on:
Faster and more accurate diagnosis
Improved patient pathways
Greater emphasis on patient voice and lived experience
However, meaningful progress will depend on successful implementation at a local level. Frontline teams must be equipped with the tools, training, and resources required to deliver sustainable improvements in care.
We look forward to continuing our partnerships with NHS organisations to help improve outcomes and experiences for women across the UK.

National Maternity Review: Current Priorities and Challenges
Progress continues against the ambitions outlined in the national maternity review, with ongoing focus on:
Personalised care pathways
Safer maternity services
Reducing health inequalities
Improving continuity of care
Despite this progress, NHS maternity services continue to face significant pressures, including workforce shortages and increasing clinical complexity.
As a result, many trusts are exploring solutions that can:
Support safe induction practices
Reduce avoidable admissions
Improve patient flow
Increase pathway efficiency
Mechanical cervical ripening methods and point-of-care diagnostics are playing an increasingly important role in helping services meet these challenges.
